PEEK Filament

ThermaX™ PEEK 3D Printing Filament

ThermaX™ PEEK 3D Filament

ThermaX™ PEEK (PolyEtherEtherKetone) is one of the highest-performance polymers in world.  Firewire® PEEK filament is made using a proprietary processing technique that allows for lower extrusion temperatures than other PEEK filaments on the market and is therefore easier to print with.

PEEK has exceptional mechanical, thermal, and chemical resistance properties making it a go-to material in some of the most demanding applications.  The Polyaryletherketone (PAEK) family of thermoplastics exhibit exceptional thermal, chemical, and mechanical properties.  The PAEK family includes the following polymers:

  • Polyetheretherketone (PEEK)
  • Polyetherketoneketone (PEKK
  • Polyetherketone (PEK)
  • Polyetherketoneetherketoneketone (PEKEKK)

Product Attributes Include:

  • Glass Transition Temp (Tg) of 143°C
  • Melt Temp (Tm) of 343°C
  • Inherent flame resistance (UL94 V-0)
  • Outstanding mechanical, thermal, and chemical resistance
  • Continuous Use Temperature (CUT) of 260°C, higher for short duration
  • Excellent resistance to a broad range of chemicals, such as those used in the oil/gas, automotive, aerospace, industrial, and chemical processing industries

Filament Specifications:

  • Diameter:  1.75mm (+/- 0.05mm)
  • Colors:  Natural/Tan
  • Larger reel quantities available upon request

Recommended Print Conditions:

  • Extruder Temp:  375 - 410°C (Lower than competitive PEEK Filaments)
  • Bed Temp: 130 - 145°C
  • Bed Prep: Ultem™ Tape is the ideal build surface, glue stick on clean glass is suitable
  • Enclosure temp (if your printer is equipped):  70 - 150°C
  • Print Speed:  10-50 mm/s for 0.2mm layer height, fast as results dictate

Annealing (post crystalizing) 3D Printed PEEK Parts:  Parts printed with PEEK must be annealed after printing to ramp-up the crystallinity in the resin.  Annealing will maximize mechanical, thermal, and chemical resistance properties.  You can follow the these annealing instructions for your PEEK parts.

Step 1:  Place printed parts in cool, room-temp oven.
Step 2.  Set temp to 120°C and allow to stabilize for 1 hour.
Step 3:  After 1 hour, increase oven temp to 150°C and allow to stabilize an additional 1 to 3 hours (longer for thicker/larger parts).
Step 4:  After heat soaking at 150°C in Step 3, reduce heat back to 100°C and allow to stabilize for 30 minutes.
Step 5:  After 30 minutes, turn off oven heat and allow printed parts to return to room temp inside the oven as it cools.
