3D Printing Troubleshooting: Floor Corner Gaps

Floor corner gaps appear as small holes in the bottom layer of a print, especially near corners. These gaps weaken the base of the print and affect appearance. The problem usually comes from poor extrusion during the first layers or incorrect bed leveling.

Symptoms:

  • Small holes at bottom corners of prints.

  • First few layers not fully filled at edges.

Causes:

  • Inadequate first layer overlap.

  • Bed leveling/Z-offset too high.

  • Low extrusion at first layers.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Increase first layer extrusion width (120–150%).

  2. Adjust Z-offset for closer nozzle contact.

  3. Lower first layer speed.

  4. Check extrusion calibration.

Prevention Tips:

  • Run first layer calibration print regularly.

  • Use brim/skirt to stabilize flow before main model.
