3DXTECH Visits Fraunhofer USA Center Midwest at Michigan State University

On Thursday, May 8th, several members of the 3DXTECH team had the honor of touring the Fraunhofer USA Center Midwest (CMW) located at Michigan State University, as well as the university’s impressive polymer and testing capabilities within their engineering building.

The Fraunhofer USA Center Midwest, part of the larger Fraunhofer USA network, is internationally recognized for its cutting-edge research and development services in advanced coatings, diamond-based materials, and thin-film technologies. Operating in close partnership with Michigan State University, Fraunhofer USA provides innovative solutions to some of today’s most complex industrial and technological challenges.

The main facilitator of the visit was Dr. James Siegenthaler, one of the many talented scientists working at Fraunhofer USA. James, after meeting with our team at multiple events such as RAPID+TCT 2025 and last year’s Automation Alley event, generously extended an invitation for us to visit and get a firsthand look at Fraunhofer USA’s state-of-the-art facilities.

During the tour, our team was able to admire advanced equipment and learn more about the ongoing collaboration between Fraunhofer USA and MSU. We were particularly inspired by the center’s focus on bridging fundamental research with real-world applications, a mission that resonates deeply with our own commitment at 3DXTECH to advancing high-performance additive manufacturing materials.

We hope this extremely insightful tour acts as a spark for future collaborations with Fraunhofer USA team at MSU. At 3DXTECH, we are eager to explore ways our two teams can possibly work together to further push innovation within the industry of additive manufacturing.

We are extremely grateful for the hospitality shown by both James and the entire Fraunhofer USA team. If you’d like to learn more about the R&D and technology solutions that Fraunhofer USA is working on, you can visit their website here: https://www.cmw.fraunhofer.org/en/about.html or follow them on LinkedIn.
