3D Printing Troubleshooting: Stringing / Oozing

Stringing occurs when small hair-like strands of plastic stretch across open areas. Oozing creates blobs on the print surface. These issues reduce surface quality and are often linked to retraction and temperature settings.

Symptoms:

  • Fine strings between parts or gaps.

  • Blobs on travel paths.

Causes:

  • Retraction settings too low.

  • Nozzle temp too high.

  • Moist filament.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Increase retraction distance/speed.

  2. Lower nozzle temperature.

  3. Dry filament before use.

  4. Enable coasting/wiping in slicer.

Prevention Tips:

  • Always test retraction settings with small towers.

  • Store filament in airtight containers.
