3D Printing Troubleshooting: Warping

Warping is when a print’s edges lift from the bed due to uneven cooling and material shrinkage. This is especially common in materials like ABS and nylon. Warping causes dimensional errors and can ruin larger prints.

Symptoms:

  • Edges lift off the bed.

  • Corners curl upward.

  • Layers separate mid-print.

Causes:

  • Cooling too fast.

  • Bed temperature too low.

  • Large flat prints without adhesion aids.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Use a heated enclosure for temperature-sensitive materials.

  2. Increase bed temp.

  3. Add brim or raft.

  4. Lower fan speed.

Prevention Tips:

  • Print with enclosure for ABS/nylon.

  • Use adhesives to anchor base layer.
